Hardware: ICD Link & Seagate ST296N 80 meg hard drive System Software: ICDBOOT 6.5.5 (hard drive boot program) T030.PRG (Turbo030 MMU setup program) FRB.PRG (32bit ramdisk transfer program) FASTRAMA.PRG (32bit ram test/initializer) Warp 9 v3.75 (Codehead graphics accelerator) GEM Bench v3.25 (Atari ST/TT/F30 tester) 1. The following are test results using Fast Technology Turbo30 68030 hardware accelerator board on a standard Atari Mega ST2, upgraded to a Mega ST4 by adding the additional 2 megs of ram directly to the motherboard, and a TT Fastram daughter board with and additional 8 megs of TT ram. The daughter board can handle an additional 8 megs of ram for a total of 16 megs of TT FastRam. Total ram for this system can be 20 megs of ram (4 ST RAM + 16 TT RAM). The Turbo30 must run under Atari ST TOS 2.06 to use the TT ram and cache. The Turbo30 is hardwired switched between the standard 68000 CPU at 8 Mhz to the 68030 CPU at 50 Mhz w/68882 50 Mhz FPU, but must be rebooted to switch between CPUs. 2. I do not have access to a Fast Technology 68000 T-20 or T-25 accelerators for comparison, but the following test results are based on a standard Atari 68000/8 Mhz ST 520/1040/Mega (with & without Blitter & FPU), Atari 68000/16 Mhz MegaSTE (with & without Blitter & FPU), Atari 68030 TT (with & without FastRam), and Atari 030 Falcon (with & without FPU). This is the best complete bench marking tests for the Turbo30. Other video cards, different 68030 CPUs at varying speeds can produce different figures than shown here. I am most satisfied with the increase of speed, compared to the stock Mega ST. I use my Atari system for mostly Desktop Publishing (DTP) and find programs like Calamus, PageStream, Convector, Outline Art and TouchUp enjoy the 030 speed and TT FastRam. Even Spectre GCR flies quite well at this speed. The only program I can not run in 030 mode is PC Ditto 3.0. What a shame, I would like to have seen what Norton rating I could get! 10. I will be submitting a full article on the Turbo30 board and how I put this monster system into a full tower case with all the bells & whistles (i.e. SysQuest, floptical, Moniterm, video switchers, buttons and LED's) to ST Informer and ST Format magazines along with color photos and diagrams.
